Game Overview

The Story So Far:

It's the far future in Diamond City, a rookie baseball player, Kasey Chaser, is looking to become a pro player. To achieve this goal, Kasey sets out to enter the fabled, STRIKEZONE, a virtual world where one can train for as long as they desire. However, finding his way into the STRIKEZONE, will be no easy task. A rival baseball player, S.B. want's to be the first to enter the virtual world, and will stop at nothing to keep Kasey from entering first! Can you traverse the streets of Diamond City, raid the Factory, and ultimately enter the STRIKEZONE? Find out by playing, STRIKEZONE!

Game Mechanic:

In STRIKEZONE, platforming is the name of the game. As Kasey you can run, jump, or swing your bat. The bat, enemies, and the background are the main components of the game mechanic. When you strike an enemy with your bat, you will knock the enemy into the background. Depending on what's in the background, whether it's a glass window, a cracked wall, etc. you will be awarded more points if you hit an enemy into a destructible or interactable object, and sometimes there will be items hidden in those background walls. STRIKEZONE will feature a variety of enemies and hazards to contend with, such as the Basemen, the Flyballs, or the stage boss herself, S.B.!

Software Engineering:

Actually piecing together the class diagram was by far the most useful part of the entire software engineering process for me. The amount of confusion that was spared by having some kind of organized design is amazing. In all honesty, this is one of the first projects I have undertaken that actually utilize software engineering, and it is very refreshing to finally use the knowledge I have obtained in the past. Here's a picture of the game core class diagram:

-Here's some of the level design documents, a bit rough, but you can see the work put in.

Each of the stages in STRIKEZONE contain destructible background elements to reward the player for lining up good shots with enemies, and each stage has at least one unique mechanic, whether that be falling platforms, turning gears, or bouncy platforms. Each stage was crafted to ask the player only to do what the main characters control allows for. Cheapness is avoided wherever possible, thanks to thought out level design.

The game will be available to play for free starting Nov. 20th during the Florida Poly Virtual Game Expo. If you like the game, be sure to give me a vote during the expo, thank you and enjoy the game!
